A Message from Dr. Chris Lowder, Superintendent 03/14/2017
For the second consecutive year, Cabarrus County Schools is home to the North Carolina Men’s Basketball Champions. Congratulations to the Cox Mill High School
Chargers on its 3A State Championship title
. The team defeated Eastern Guilford in the Dean Smith Center in Chapel Hill on March 11th.
The Hickory Ridge High School
Lady Bulls also competed for the Championship
, falling by only two points to Northern Guilford. The team finished the season 31-1 as state runners-up and as champions of the Southern Piedmont 3A Conference where they were 18-0. Congratulations to both teams!
March is Youth Art Month, a national observance emphasizes the value of art education for all children and encourages the support of quality school art programs. Cabarrus County Schools is fortunate to have a strong visual arts program at the elementary, middle, and high school levels.
Each year, our district celebrates our student artists
with school art shows and a district show. This year, our district celebration will take place in Downtown Concord with an art walk, as well as performances by student musicians, actors, singers, and dancers. Please join us as we celebrate The Power of Art
on March 31st from 4:30 to 7 p.m.
Our district Budget Committee
has been hard at work prioritizing district needs for the coming school year so that we can present a budget proposal first, to our Board of Education, and then, to the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners. The Budget Committee is comprised of school district staff – including my Cabinet, senior leaders, principals, teachers and a teacher assistant – a county commissioner, county staff, Board of Education members, parents, and community members.
Our district’s partnership with our County Commissioners is the envy of school systems across the state. We are fortunate that our commissioners understand and appreciate the value a strong school system brings to the county, and they are committed to supporting us. For that, I am extremely grateful.
To ensure fairness in setting budget priorities, we are using the TregoED process
, a collaborative problem-solving and decision-making tool. And to ensure transparency in the process, our Board will hold its Budget Work Session
on Thursday, March 23rd at 6 p.m. You are welcome to attend.
In closing, I want to remind you (and our students) that despite the summer-like temperatures outside, we still have about 2 1/2 months left in the school year. Don’t catch an early case of Spring Fever. Also, take note of these important dates in the coming weeks:
March 23 – Early Dismissal
March 24 – No School for Students/Teacher Workday
April 3-7 – Kindergarten Registration
Until next time,
Christopher Lowder, Ed.D.
