North Carolina Battle of the Books: Pull For Your Team
North Carolina's Elementary Battle of the Books is an academic competition which encourages reading and exposes fourth and fifth graders to a variety of literary genres. The guidelines of the North Carolina School Library Media Association sponsored program specifies that each elementary school's team consists of no more than 12 fourth and fifth graders.
At last year's county-wide competition our Cox Mill Elementary EBoB team placed 2nd out of 18 teams at the Cabarrus County Elementary Competition!
In media class just before summer break, rising fourth and fifth graders received an EBoB 2016-17 bookmark and heard about the books.  In addition, rising 6th graders received a MBoB bookmark.  We have multiple copies of most of the EBoB titles for student check-out in our media center.  The books are also available at the Cabarrus County Public Library branches and at local bookstores.

We are now preparing for this year's EBoB competition, which will be held on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at Rocky River Presbyterian Church. As stated above, we will be forming a team of no more than 12 fourth and fifth graders. In order to be considered for the team, all interested students will be required to take a qualifying test. The test will be offered after school on Monday, October 17th and/or Tuesday, October 18th from 3:00 PM - 3:45 PM in the Media Center. It will consist of two sections: title/author matching and one question about each book. While it is not necessary to have read all of the books on the list before taking the qualifying test, the more familiar the kids are with the books, the more successful they will be. Participation forms will go home with all fourth and fifth graders at the beginning of October and will have to be returned to the Media Center by Wednesday, October 12th for inclusion in the qualifying testing.
**Please note: two testing dates are being offered for the convenience of our families, however, your child only needs to attend ONE testing session, not both.
Students who have made the team will be notified by the end of October and after school practices will be held every Monday in the Media Center from 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM starting Monday, November 14th.
